You want to know the secret behind every chunky little Demon Cat keychain, every articulated dragon, and every Deadpool Pokéball in my shop? One beautiful, over-caffeinated machine: the Bambu Lab H2C. It's the printer that lets me throw seven colors at a model and come out the other side with something that looks painted instead of printed. Let me pull back the curtain.

What makes the Bambu Lab H2C a multicolor beast

The H2C's party trick is the Vortek Hotend Change System — six swappable, contactless hotends that let it print up to SEVEN colors or materials in a single job (and up to 24 filaments when you bolt on the AMS units, which I run two of). Induction heating gets a nozzle up to temp in about 8 seconds, it'll hit 350°C, and the heated chamber keeps the fussy engineering filaments happy. Translation: it swaps colors fast and rarely throws a tantrum.

Multicolor's dirty little secret: purge waste

Here's the thing nobody puts on the box: every time a multicolor printer changes color, it has to purge the old color out of the nozzle, and that plastic goes in the trash. On a traditional single-nozzle AMS setup, a busy multi-color print can spit out 300 grams of waste. The H2C's multi-hotend system cuts that by up to 58% — so that same print might waste under 130 grams. Less wasted plastic is literally more merc money in my pocket, and fewer little poop-noodles in the bin.

My H2C multicolor printing tips

A few things I've learned wrangling color on this machine, so you don't have to learn them the hard (wasteful) way:

Flush into infill: in Bambu Studio, turn on "flush into infill" so the purged color hides inside your model instead of building a giant wasteful purge tower next to it. Free plastic savings.

Tune your purge volumes by transition: going light-to-dark needs way less purge than dark-to-light. Yellow into black? Easy. White out of red? Crank it up or you'll get muddy edges.

Keep the hotends clean: cold pulls and the little cleaning sponge are your friends. A gunky nozzle is where color bleed and failed swaps come from.

Model in pieces / color by part: a lot of my designs (the Pokéballs especially) are built so each color lives on its own part, which means cleaner color breaks and even less purge. Design smart, waste less.
