The Avengers: Doomsday Popcorn Bucket Is Doctor Doom's Head. Is It Coming to Texas?

The first look at the Avengers: Doomsday popcorn buckets is all over your feed this week, and yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. Victor Von Doom's hooded iron face, scooped out and turned into a snack vessel. You pay money, he holds your popcorn. That is the most useful Doom has ever been to anybody in the multiverse.

That is me up top holding one, by the way. I do not have one. Nobody in America has one. That picture is what wanting something too much looks like when you own a computer.

If you are still processing the fact that Robert Downey Jr. is the one under that mask, I already had my feelings about that one. Today we are talking about snacks.

What is actually in the promo

The video making the rounds shows three pieces, and it is worth looking at all of them, because everyone is only talking about one.

• The head bucket. Doom's full hood and polished steel mask, sculpted in the round. In the promo the eye slits flare green, which looks incredible. Whether the real one lights up, nobody has said.
• The throne cup. A tall cup built like Doom's throne, with him seated at the base, Avengers and Fantastic Four symbols carved into the sides, and a glowing green straw sticking out of the top like a tiny evil antenna.
• A printed collector bucket. A metallic-finish bucket wrapped in Doom artwork, shown with a round Doom medallion.

Green smoke, gothic stained glass, a lot of dramatic fog. Whoever cut that video was having a fantastic day at work.

The part your feed skipped

Watch that video all the way to the end. The coming-soon card says Em Breve. The title card says Vingadores: Doutor Destino. That is Portuguese. And the logo it lands on is Cinemark.

So the promo everybody is sharing is from Cinemark Brazil, where this movie is literally called Avengers: Doctor Doom. The fan accounts that broke the first look say the buckets will be sold at Cinemark, and that is true. The question nobody asked is which Cinemark.

As of today, Cinemark in the US has not announced any of this. No price, no on-sale date, no list of theaters. The first image of a Doom head bucket surfaced from a fan account in late September, and the October posts that kicked off this week's wave came from fan news accounts too, not from Marvel or Cinemark's US channels.

Could it land here? Very possibly. Popcorn buckets are a full-blown collector economy now and nobody leaves that money on the table. But a first look and coming to your theater are two different sentences, and the internet keeps treating them like one.

Why this is a DFW story

Fun fact: Cinemark is headquartered in Plano. The company deciding whether a hollow Doom lands at your neighborhood theater is right up the Tollway.

Which makes me, technically, the local correspondent on this. I have taken that responsibility very seriously. I have thought about it for almost an entire minute.

I would like to formally discuss my bucket

I want to be very clear. I am not upset. I am a professional. Good for Doom. He has had a big year.

But I have had a face like a topographical map for my entire career, and nobody, not once, has offered to fill it with popcorn. Marvel had a choice between a polished iron mask and a guy who looks like a pepperoni pizza that lost an argument, and they made the safe call.

So until somebody in Plano returns my calls, I will be at the movies on December 18 with a regular striped bucket, guarding it like it owes me money.
